Description: One of the major initiatives of the AVLNC Data and Research Committee was launched in late 2021, which we are calling the Big Data Project. VSA has contracted with Ohio State University for the analysis of BRFSS and ACS data on people 65+ who are living with “severe vision impairment” and development of one national report and 50 state reports describing the population of people 65+ living with low vision and blindness based on the data. The reports provide a bounty of information for strategic planning for services providers as well as a basis for advocacy for equitable funding and access to services. Learn about the first phase of this project which includes 8 states: Pennsylvania, New York, California, Louisiana, Florida, Missouri, Oklahoma and Illinois; the ongoing efforts to complete reports for the rest of the country; and subsequent phases to do the same for people ages 18-64 and children birth – 17.
