The Carroll Center for the Blind empowers those who are blind and visually impaired to achieve independence and to lead a fulfilling life.  The Carroll Center serves all ages and stages of vision loss by providing campus-based rehabilitation, technology instruction, community orientation and mobility as well as itinerant education and mobility services to children.

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic Assistant Director of Education Services to assist the Director with implantation and oversight of both itinerant and campus-based services for students between the ages of 3 and 22.  Also, the Assistant Director will provide assessment, direct and/or consultative specialized education services relating to identified or suspected visual impairments.  Responsibilities include caseload monitoring for staff, professional development planning/training, mentoring, and providing support for staff, assisting in writing and conducting performance reviews, troubleshooting staff’s concerns and/or disciplinary issues as they occur and contributing to the budget planning and management. Additionally, will take the lead and oversee planning and preparation for Carroll Prep programs and events, such as the Braille Challenge and the Carroll Kids and Teens Summer Program.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education of Students with Visual Impairments and current professional TVI licensure required, COMS certification is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years successful teaching experience as a licensed TVI required
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and organization skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of both mainstream and adaptive technologies
  • Working knowledge of past, current and emerging instructional strategies and resources related to the education of students with visual impairments or blindness.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct assessments and plan IEP’s.
  • Ability to travel throughout New England for a student evaluation, consultation and on-site visit purposes.
  • Must have valid driving license and good driving record.
