2026 Community Mobility Champion Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ST. LOUIS, May 12, 2026 – VisionServe Alliance is thrilled to announce that VisionCorps in Lancaster, PA, has received the Community Mobility Champion Award. This award, presented by UZURV, recognizes an individual or organization that has demonstrated a commitment to advocacy and partnership resulting in increased community mobility for blind and low-vision individuals.

VisionCorps has pursued innovative strategies to advocate for increased mobility options for people who are blind or vision impaired. In addition to travel training and orientation programs, the organization pursues collaborative programs to increase transportation options for the citizens they serve. For example, it is currently developing a partnership called LionsLift, which would organize Lions Club members as volunteer drivers to provide transportation to the blind and low-vision community.

“The Community Mobility Champion Award is dedicated to honoring individuals or organizations who are actively working to improve the accessibility of transportation and pedestrian spaces, and in particular people who are blind/low-vision,” said Ron Brooks, UZURV’s Senior Director – Policy and Partnership. “VisionCorps understands that freedom of movement improves the quality of life for all people, including those who are blind/low-vision, and it takes hard work, dedication and array of services — all designed to do one important thing: increase the ability of blind/low-vision community members to get out and about, and enjoy everything the Lancaster community has to offer. We couldn’t be more pleased to recognize VisionCorps for their work.”

“VisionCorps is a powerful advocate for those with vision loss, participating in a broad range of committees charged with reviewing and proposing new mobility routes and options in the community,” said Jason Eckert, VP and COO, VisionServe Alliance. “We are thrilled to recognize this innovative organization with this Community Mobility Champion Award.”

VisionCorps is also a member of Transit for ALL PA, a statewide coalition working with policymakers across Pennsylvania to enhance public transit and increase funding to provide more comprehensive transportation services.

The Community Mobility Champion Award will be presented at the Envision and VisionServe Alliance 2026 Conference in Columbus, OH, at lunch on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
